Ewa's fun things
I bet you're looking for fun and games to play on this website. Well, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but this is my website, so it's about me. So this page is about what I like to do for fun. There are very few things, but here they are:
- this - Oh, yes, this is one of my fun things. I have always highly enjoyed coding website pages. I started with the animals and then it just ballooned out to all this. I coded the pages for the first animal clinic I worked at after graduating with my DVM and they really haven't changed it much. They have some serious updating to do. You can check that out here. My latest work was my veterinary hospital's website I just updated to bring into the 21st century. Now I'm working on my own.
- reading - I'm an avid reader of science fiction and comedy/mysteries and the occasional romance novel. My favorite is Janet Evanovich, but I'm branching out to Jennifer Crusie and I think I might like her more. In sci-fi, I'm partial to Alastair Reynolds right now, but I'm sure John will find another author that we'll read avidly in the near future. I used to read a lot of Dostoyevski and I love Shakespeare, and I'm getting a feeling that I'm going to get talked into Jane Austen by some of my friends.
- reality shows - Okay, so I'm a reality show junkie. It started with Survivor on CBS, so then I watched Amazing Race and Big Brother. Now I've added Top Chef (one of my favorites) and Hell's Kitchen. Loved the last season of Survivor (Fans vs Favorites) and wouldn't mind seeing a similar season again. I can't wait for Big Brother 10 to start, since last season was such a disappointment. I also watched a season of Make Me a Supermodel and Project Runway, but I don't think I'll have time to do it again. Unless, I'm done with the website and then I guess I might free up some again.
Occasional fun things
They are occasional because I can't afford, or don't have time, to do these things all that often. Of course they are vacations, most often to Mexico, and date nights with my husband.
Since we are now with two children, Mexico has to be very well planned to be restful for all four of us. We've found a resort in Puerto Vallarta that has a on-site daycare that takes your kiddos from the very young age of 4 months. Now we didn't stick either one of our kids in there at that age, but we did take Marcus in when he was 8 months old and Hektor at almost 4 years of age. They had a blast! It just gave them a couple of hours a day where they could play with toys inside and not have to be cooped up in the hotel room with us or stuck by the pool. Although I can't say that they really hated being stuck by the pool, but we sure enjoyed a break from them... not that we don't love them lots! The resort is Melia Puerto Vallarta, and it rocks!
Date nights are a little more frequent than vacation, but we still have to arrange for babysitting, and the best babysitters are my parents. Why? you may ask. Well, they usually take the kiddos for a 24-48 hour period of time and you can really have a lot of fun with that. Concerts, late nights out with friends, movie and dinner and drinks, etc. Just a lot of time to play.
I guess another thing I do is go to the opera. Mom and I have season tickets to the Dallas Opera, so we're doing that 5 times a year. They're about to open a new opera house in Dallas and we're really excited about that.
OPERA, n. A play representing life in another world, whose inhabitants have no speech but song, no motions but gestures and no postures but attitudes.
- The Devil's Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce
